The terms of membership
Last updated 17 September 2026 · Applies to theguestbook.golf, waitlist.theguestbook.golf and The Guest Book app
These terms are the agreement between you and The Guest Book when you join the waitlist, hold a member card, or use the app. By requesting your place you accept them. They are written to be read, not skimmed — they are short on purpose.
1. Who we are
The Guest Book is operated by The Guest Book Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 17391490. Our registered office is Apartment 2303, 12 Bankside Boulevard, Salford, M3 7HZ, United Kingdom, and “we” in these terms means that company. Contact: hello@theguestbook.golf.
2. What The Guest Book is — and is not
The Guest Book makes introductions between golfers. We are not a golf club, a tour operator, or a party to any round you arrange. We do not vet members beyond the checks described in the app (age attestation and mobile verification), we do not guarantee anyone’s identity, handicap, conduct or golf, and hosts remain responsible for their own club’s rules about guests.
Meeting people carries risk. You are choosing to meet another adult to play golf. Use your judgement as you would with any stranger: tell someone where you are going, use the first-tee check-in codes, and report anything that feels wrong. The safety features help, but they do not replace your own care.
3. Your membership
- You must be 18 or over. Membership rests on your declaration of age at signup: we rely on that declaration in good faith, and — to the fullest extent the law allows — we accept no liability for any member who has misstated their age. A false age ends a membership immediately, without notice or refund.
- If you suspect a member is under 18, tell us at hello@theguestbook.golf. Every report is investigated promptly and discreetly; where we reasonably suspect a member is underage we may suspend or remove the account first and ask questions second, and we will involve the relevant authorities where appropriate.
- One member, one account, one verified mobile number. Your details must be true — “an 18 is an 18”.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account; keep your device secure.
- We may suspend or remove an account that breaks these terms, and where the breach involves safety we may do so first and explain second.
4. Conduct — the etiquette of the book
- Write to other members as you would speak in a clubhouse. The app filters explicit language; trying to defeat the filter is itself a breach.
- Hate speech, harassment, threats and discrimination end a membership. There is no second telling.
- Honour your tee times. Repeated no-shows may be recorded against your profile and may end your membership.
- Vouches must be honest and about golf. Don’t use the book to advertise, solicit, or scrape members’ information.
5. What you post
Your words remain yours. By posting to the clubhouse, messaging, or vouching, you give us the non-exclusive licence we need to store and display that content inside the service — that is all it is used for. We may remove content that breaks these terms. We do not claim ownership of anything you write.
6. What membership costs — and the Green Jacket
- Membership of The Guest Book is currently free. There is nothing to pay, no trial to cancel and no card to give.
- The Green Jacket is a mark of recognition shown on some members’ cards. It is not a paid tier and it is not for sale.
- If paid membership or paid tiers are ever introduced, we will tell you clearly and in advance — what it costs, what it includes and when it would begin — and these terms will be updated first, as section 9 describes. Nothing will be charged without your agreement.
- Founding members who joined from the waitlist with a launch code keep the free first year of membership they were promised, should payments ever be introduced.
- Nothing in this section affects your statutory rights, including those under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
7. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited under the law of England and Wales. Beyond that: the service is provided “as is”; we are not liable for the acts of members, for what happens on or off the course between members, for a club refusing a guest, or for loss of profit or data. Nor are we liable for information members give us or each other that turns out to be false — including a member’s age, identity or handicap, which we rely on as declared and verify only as described in the app. Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.
8. Ending things
You can leave at any time — delete your account in the app or email us, and your data is handled as the Privacy Policy describes. We can end or suspend a membership for breach of these terms, and we can withdraw or change features of the service; if paid membership is ever introduced and a change materially affects it, we will tell you and you may cancel with a pro-rata refund.
9. The legal bits
- These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction — though if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you keep the protections and courts of your home nation.
- If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stands.
- We may update these terms; material changes will be flagged in the app before they take effect, and continuing to use the service after that is acceptance.
